That’s the new Peninsula Tokyo Hotel being built across from Hibiya Park. It opens next year and will be a significant addition to the continued revival of the whole Tokyo-Marunouchi-Yurakucho area. From the early ’80s to late ’90s focus was on the Ikebukuro-Shinjuku-Shibuya areas, but now it’s shifting back to the other side of the loop. In fact, Shinjuku and Shibuya do seem kind of run down these days. Ikebukuro has always been a dump. I was looking at some photos I took of the city and almost all of them have some kind of construction site or crane in the frame. When is this city going to be finished?!

This would be part of the same chain that’s in Hong Kong, right?

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for the Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu:

… For the view of Shibuya Square, and the American buffet breakfast ;-)

But I’d certainly be interested in hearing about other Tokyo hotels you and your readers have stayed at!

Since I live here, I’ve never stayed at a Tokyo Hotel. Except maybe Love Hotels ;)

Real cities must continue to remake themselves in order to stay vital.

Thus, real cities NEVER finished.

Lucky you live in a real city!
