Our beloved Toyota 2000GT is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a fabulous exhibit at the History Garage in Odaiba. I happened to be there yesterday and only had time to get a few pics. I’ll definitely go back again with my DSLR to get some better photos for the gallery. The show is running until April 22nd.

They had four 2000GTs on display including one of only two topless white GTs in existence, custom made for James Bond.

The Toyota 2000GT was the first Japanese sports car and a cultural icon. It might be the reason why Japanese love white cars.

Toyota should really revive this car. It’d be an instant hit.

And there were plenty of goodies on display as well. Where can I get that model kit!? Although the 2000GT had a pathetic engine, I think it’s the best Bond car. I’ll take a 2000GT over an Austin Martin any day.

Some great illustrations and press photos.

This one is my favorite.

If I had the yen, I would buy this in a heartbeat. The coupe version version I have never seen before at all. This has always been one of my favourite cars, the other being Nissan Fairlady Z (240ZG).
“Kaneda!!”
Umm…what’s the connection with Akira?
Wish I could make it to see this exhibit, but I guess I’ll just have to try and hunt down each car seperately on my next trip. The 2000GT is a fine car. I’ve seen 4 here in California and would love to attend a 2000GT meet in Japan - last year I saw about a dozen at a Nostalgic Car Show in Tokyo!
Thanks for the heads-up. I MUST go and see it.
I so love this post!!
Wish I am still in Chiba, then I could pop doen to Odaiba to see the cars for myself.
Sigh….
Roy, any shots of the new Supra?
saff, I didn’t know you were interested in cars?
Kai, what new Supra?
Hi, nice report.
I was in Megaweb last year.
Would you autorize me to copy your pictures in my website ?
Best Regards. Luc

That’s because the only open-topped 2000GTs were the ones that were purpose-built for “You Only Live Twice.”
