PRHT = Powered Retractable Hard Top. It was officially unveiled at the British Motor Show 2 days ago. The RHT is the first one that does not sacrifice any of the boot space when retracted and only takes 12 seconds to open and close. Very fast compared to the competition. This version comes as no surprise since the NC was originally designed to accomodate a RHT, at least that’s what we all guessed when we saw the big space behind the seats. The surprise is that it came out so soon, less than a year since they released the NC.

I like the RHT, but not enough for me to trade in my NC for one. But then again, I’m a sucker for neat gadgets so…That new color Stormy Blue is really nice though. It would definitely have been my first choice had it been available last year. Mazda is going to selll a ton of these…

I like the concept illustrations as well. Check out the official site for more info.

Tomorrow, I’m going to get my new wheels installed. Hooray!!! They’ve finally arrived!!

Mmmmm Hmmmm!

I like this hardtop! Wonder when it’s coming to the States and how much?

At last, the wheels! You must be aching for them, I know I would! I sense…a new post coming…about an epic drive…and loads of pictures… :))

The PRHT is drop-dead gorgeous, no question. And it will give improved stiffness to the chassis, and perhaps a more confortable ride (less noises, I would assume). But don’t you feel it’s a little ‘less’ MX-5?

Besides, the NC is already so much stiffer and confortable than the NB, that I don’t think most of us would be reaching for the new limits of the car. Or perhaps I’m just pathetically old-school :)

It’s a double-edged sword. While I do like the NC’s more luxurious feel. A part of me regrets selling the NB. The PRHT is very cool but I agree that it’s less of a roadster. The suspension is different, softer and more comfortable, apparently.

I wish I had a huge garage. I would get an NA and NB and NC.

It’s been raining for the last 2 weeks so I don’t know when I’ll be able to go out and get good pictures of the new wheels but don’t worry. I will.

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and sunny, so maybe you’ll get your chance sooner than you think.

Well, I’ll reserve all judgements about how it drives until I can actually sit in one…

But here in SFO, having a hardtop convertible is practical. No one can slash the top if it’s metal!
