That’s my NC in the middle of a Powered Retractable Hard Top MX-5 Roadster (left) and a NC with optional Aeroparts (right). I think mine is still the best looking one. I went to the dealer yesterday afternoon to change the ownership of my car over to my name. Usually in Japan, if you buy a car and take out a car loan, the car is owned by the finance company until you pay off the car. Well, I’ve it paid off and got all the paperwork together (there’s quite a lot) but was told I got a wrong form and I had to come back again. Drag…but anyway I did get to take some comparison photos. After that I headed to Oimachi to a friend’s house party and when I went to park the car TRAGEDY!!!

I parked the car on the street instead of at a coin park (to save money) and was coming into the spot too fast when I scratched the side of my new wheels. And not just a tiny scratch it was series of huge monster scratches. 4 spokes and a large part of the rim are marred for life. I don’t have to tell you that I was literally crying on the street. If only I decided to go to the coin park instead. Oh well..
So after some sulking and kicking myself for being so incompetent, I walked to my friend’s place. They’re leaving Japan for good and this was their farewell party. It was a fun gathering but it’s always a drag when friends leave. Most of the good friends I’ve had have left Japan. The ones that stay and my Japanese friends have gotten married and so forth and won’t hang around as much. Time to get that cat maybe?

I’m glad I”m not the only one who feels “left behind”. All of my best friends have also left Japan and the ones that are left, while not married, tend to work long hours and have almost not time to socialize.
Sorry about the wheels. I don’t have a car in Japan but can’t that sort of thing be fixed up somehow?
Also, when you get to a certain age it’s not as easy making new friends to hang out with, especially when you have a set routine in your lifestyle and cannot be as spontaneous. Or maybe it’s just me?
Yeah, the wheels!! There’s not much I can do about a scratch but it’s really not that big a deal. These things happen. My friend bought the exact same wheels and scratched them on the first day. At least I’ve had these for a while now.
Ooohhh. Sorry about the rims man. Are they chromed or polished? If their polished a professional could buff some of it out. Or you could have someone re-chrome it. OR you could just buy one rim. Not to freak you out or anything but be careful… if it is chromed, the weather might cause some of it to start flaking off and it might start looking worse.
Boo to foreigner friends leaving Japan. I just went to a soubetsukai party on Friday. Sucks.
hi,
i just found ur blog and all i can say is i really like it. very much enjoy this. the way u write this blog make me feel like reading about my friend or sth.
thanks for great blog, so much interesting stuff to read
First 4 weddings and a funeral. Now 3 cars and a departure. I too have lost a chum recently in Yokohama. I remember saying to him when I was nearly going last year when he was shocked, “But I hardly ever see you!’ He replied, ‘Yes. But you are here. If I need to see you.’ Now he is not here. And I do not have an MX5 to comfort me. I have a driver but she ….. ah…. la recherche du temps perdu.
Kitty moving in? I remembered seeing people walking thier dogs around, but never someone with their pet kitties. Where are all the kitties in Tokyo?
Saffronsaris: I bet kitties in Tokyo get eaten by mobs of crows once little kitty gets cocky.
Darn, what a shame about the rims. I just got a new tyre put on one of mine (nail in the sidewall) and due to total carelessness of the shop, now that wheel looks very similar to yours.
Wooooow! PHRT! Still wanna see/sit/drive in one one of these days!
Does it look good outside the showroom as well as in?
And, I’d probably be concentrating more on the girlfren hunt than the kitty hunt.
Did I just say that? Wahahah!
Hey Roy, did you buy a PRHT Roadster yet or what? What are you waiting for, that car is sweet!!!
