The traditionally thing to do on the eve of new year’s eve, that’s Dec. 30th, is to clean the house completely. Everyone in Japan cleans their houses from top to bottom. You can hear the sounds of futons being whipped throughout the neighborhood. I opened all the windows in my house today and did my own version of ohsōji 大掃除 but I didn’t wash the windows or wax the floors cause I’m too lazy and there are like 21 windows in my house. That’s a lot isn’t it? Also, I got absorbed watching “Good Night, and Good Luck” which derailed my cleaning efforts. But I did spend a fair amount of time washing the car this afternoon. The roadster hasn’t been getting much love lately, I finally got around to swapping the battery out for a new one, which died while I was in Hong Kong. And took it for a little drive out to a 7-Eleven about 4 blocks away. It’s real close. This drive was an unnecessary waste of gas and contributing to global warming. I know, I feel bad. But as any car owner will tell you, after washing a car you have to take it for a drive. It’s a rule. Anyway, here it is in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven. I had to get one more roadster post before the end of the year.
Ohsōji

Those rims put off so sharp, they’re really awesome.
Remember the buzz about the Roadster retractable hardtop? Have you seen any on the road yet?
I did some cleaning too (a bit more than my usual wipe and dust) … nothng ambitious but I didn’t notice anything different about my apartment before and after the effort … geez.
Why did your battery die? Isn’t your Mazda relitively new?
Maybe you should drive the roadster more often helps recharge the battery.
What are those little sticker on the rear quarter panel and lower right fender? Are you turning into a ricer?
Also, did you know AutoArt is producing a diecast of your grey roadster in 1/18 scale?
Happy New Year
Jan, thanks they are awesome rims.
Abraxis, I’ve seen 2 on the road here so far.
chalkmarker, that means that your apartment was clean to begin with.
Kai, so many question! My battery died because I was away for a few weeks and all my drives before that were short trips. You have to drive for at least 30 minutes before it does any good for the battery. Anything shorter will just drain it. Those stickers are just stickers like on any other car. And no I’m not turning into a ricer. Although I’ve been thinking about installing some blue lights along the door trim. Hmm..didn’t know about the 1/18 scale diecast. It must be pretty big.
i am curious as in how much you spend on monthly parking?
Oh my God. I am a total 7-Eleven slurpee addict. But I wonder if the Japanese stores have slurpees? I doubt it though. I do miss them dearly. We do not have 7-11’s here in Atlantic Canada. So depressing.
Stoneman
haha true blue man, after i wash my car i always take it out for a ride, its just feels wicked =) hehe rule of thumb to me as well.
Stoneman, it’s one of the worst things about living in Japan, but the 7-elevens do NOT have Slurpees! Speaking as a slurpee addict myself, I don’t think that a store should even be allowed to call itself 7-eleven if it doesn’t sell Slurpees. But there’s like 3 times as many 7-elevens in Japan as there are in the US, so I guess they get to decide.
And I agree, that’s totally true about having to take your car out for a drive after you wash it. My mom never understood it at all. On certain summer days in my teenage past, my father, my brother, and I would all wash our cars together and then all drive to 7-eleven, in three separate cars, to get post-washing slurpees. Man, those really were the days!
hi roy!
i’m sorry for giving such a late comment, but when i saw these pictures i definitely had to think of batman…!!! if i where you, i’d only take the car out at nights. it really looks cool in these dark colours… ;-)
happy new year!
