Once in a while I see these on the streets and recently had the chance to take a close look at one. The design is completely retro and reminiscent of Japanese cars from the ’60s even though the Pao came out in 1989. It looks older than it really is which is the point I guess. It has a funky soft top that you can peel back too! I absolutely love the interior dash although there’s no airbag so you’d probably get impaled by the steering column in a head-on collision. No problem though! The Pao only has a 1L engine and can’t really go that fast. I bet an obasan on a mamachari could beat this car going up a hill. Still, I totally want one! If only there was ample free parking in Tokyo I would collect all kinds of old beat up cars. More pics here

Yes it is lovely. It is the Japanese equivalent to the Citroen 2cv. I see a rare 2cv around Yokohama. I envy the owner. I gave mine away in the UK.
Yes I like these. There are quite a few in the UK. I was looking at one a couple of weeks ago. Not nearly as common as the Figaro though. What happens at the “Pike” factory now, does it make the “Cube”?

“obasan on a mamachari”
Bwahaha!
loves it!
Gotcha……
Cool! I like the ribs on the sheetmetal doors and hood. Looks like it may be to add a bit of stiffness to such a go kart of a car.
If I could get a container of these there’s be a few happy uptown kids that would be happy to spend mom and dad’s money for one!

Hello!
Paos are wonderful little motors and it is really nice to seeo ther people appreciating them. Please take a look at my website ’shrine’ to the Nissan Pao. I’d appreciate any feedback!
I am the proud owner of a PAO in Toronto, Canada (just like the one in your picture). As they are very rare here I am constantly explaining to people what it is I am driving! It has been a pleasure to drive for the last 9 months.
