While waiting for my RHT to arrive I’ve been purchasing some of the things I’ll be needing. I ordered custom made floor mats from Karo and a Panasonic CN-HDS940TD Car Navi. I knew exactly which car navi I wanted and was waiting for Panasonic to release their 2007 F-Series so that the current ones would drop in price. On Tuesday, after the press release the one I wanted dropped by ¥20,000 and I picked it up at a great price from Kakaku.com.

The floor mats also arrived this morning and I was pleasantly surprised at how magnificent these mats actually are. I decided to forego the Mazda OEM mats and buy the Karo ones since most of the Roadster enthusiasts in Japan swear by them. They were order made and took 2 weeks to arrive. I’ve never seen the Karo mats in person and most of the photos don’t do them justice. The quality is very high caliber and only cost a little more than the stock ones. The box and packaging are also very nice. I can’t wait to see how they look in the car.

At first I thought you meant karō (過労). Glad that’s not the case here.

Speaking of sports cars Roy, I was always wondering: how are the cops in Japan towards people driving hot cars?

In the U.S. the car/traffic/registration system has gotten so bad that the local municipalities have turned it into an excuse to rob people by writing unnecessary tickets. I had a 2000 turbocharged yellow New Beetle and the cops would not leave me alone. I finally had to get rid of it things got so bad. One ticket I had was for $800 USD!

Do the cops pretty much leave people alone in sports cars in Japan or have they too turned it into an excuse to rob people?

A turbocharged beetle is a sportscar? ;-)

Nice gear there. What are the eyelets for in the mats, can you clip them down some how? I had some cheap mats in my car but they kept slipping forward which made it difficult to start the car because it requires the clutch be fully depressed first, the thickness of the mat behind the peddle was just a bit too much. I haven’t had any in there for a few years now and the carpet doesn’t seem to have worn at all.
