It’s a Mark III Mini Cooper S from about 1968 to 1977. The badge on the bonnet is British Leyland and the boot badge is incorrect. The car may have been rear-ended. Twin gas tanks are a sign of an “S”.

Mini’s were made under morris and austin originally as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini Minor but then both becoming Austin and Morris Mini (Also Wolseley and Riley, but not the same iconic shape except certain markets), then became austin mini, until Austin Rover became Rover Group around 1987, when Mini’s were sold as Rover Minis, until BMW came along….
Yours will be a mk2 by the looks of your lights so could be either a Morris or Austin but as it has a Austin Cooper badge it will be a Austin Mini Cooper. But… cars could be noted as also being manufactured by Leyland Cars, Mini, Innocenti, Minicord Or Authi as well.

Gordon, how can you have a mini and no key? Did you lose it? Or are you planning to steal one? ;-)

Anyhow, I have no idea since I don’t/have never owned a mini. I suggest you join one of the mini owner forums (I don’t know what they are, search google) Maybe they can help you.

help have mini cooper but no key and no documents,where is spare key kept magnetic around back of car and where is best place to get a new key when iget documents. thank you

Yes! That is where I first really learned about the Mini, from the Mr. Bean tv series. He used it to haul furniture twice the car size! My friend’s friend (who happens to be Japanese and tall) just bought one and it is so tiny and it looks especially so with him in it. I would be afraid to drive it on American roads, but they look so fun to drive.

Actually, the badge said “Austin Cooper” which is why I got confused. I’ve been accustomed to seeing “Rover Mini” on the badge.

From the looks of the badge, it’s a Rover Mini; as stated by the previous commenter, Mini was bought from Austin later into the production. Cooper is just a varient of the classic Mini, with more power, and other sport tunings.

The nice thing about being in Japan though, is that they kept selling Minis into the late 90s, so there are PLENTY in good shape, and at a phenomenal price (Most less than ¥700000). I’ve always wanted one myself, and I’ll be aquiring one myself in the near future.

We always called them Austin Mini Cooper in UK. The Rover may have come in when they bought Austin. I have not checked this so I may be incorrect.
