Isn’t Autumn supposed to be dry? Are we sick of all this rain or what? Fall was my favorite season until I came to Japan and experienced all these typhoons. The rain ruins everything, your clothes, your bag, leather shoes etc. And in Tokyo you can’t just wear rain gear onto the train because it’s not fashionable, so you have to carry around an umbrella which is basically useless because it rains sideways. Tokyo is a great and convenient city. But when it rains it completely sucks. This is one aspect of Tokyo life that they don’t tell you about until you get here. Above are some photos of Shibuya for you guys who miss Shibuya. All those umbrellas looked like sea turtles on the beach. OK, enough ranting..going to dry myself off now.

jim, yes it is. Reopens near the end of Oct.

The rain is why I didn’t go out today. That and a cold.

Even with the rain, Shibuya is still my favourite intersection on the planet :-)

this weather sucks! it’s been raining since yesterday non-stop. Only three months in Tokyo so I’m not used to it yet :) Hope next week will be clear and maybe a little sunny?

Incredible! I was in Japan 2 weeks ago and the weather wasn’t like that. I sorta wished it rained hard so that I could experience it, but it’s all good. Thanks for the pic!

Exactly! Rain in Tokyo sucks ass. The one saving grace is a massive underground network of subway stations and other urban warrens to 忍び込む into and escape it. I basically crossed Shinjuku today completely underground, thankfully (and soundly) drenched only for the last quarter-mile of Shinjuku-doori between Meiji-doori and 2-chome. We had a tree-bending lateral wind and genuine thanks for choosing black this morning. But these shoes…

So, when does it end, then?

jim, Brad> Renovating Starbucks?! Didn’t even notice that. This will have to be a blog topic.

chalkmarker> The pictures were taken with the GR from the station and there were droplets on the window. I used the digital zoom for the second photo which is why it looks grainy

AC> Did you see the scene in Tokyo Drift where they drift right thru this intersection? Silly.

Bart> Winter in Tokyo is great. Clean, crisp air. Hardly ever rains. You’ll like it.

Jason> You came at the best time, seriously rain in Tokyo is the pits.

Denbushi> Just yesterday I ruined a good pair of shoes with leather soles. I’m soo bummed out.

mereoner> 12 inches of rain for the whole year? That’s it? At least you don’t have to worry about everything in your house getting moldy. Also, thank you for your nice comment!

Aww….

Rain or no rain, I wish i were back there… :-(

At least umbrellas werent embarrasing and were commonplace there. Back in the UK, its considered ‘cooler’ and more macho to wear a hooded coat or just get wet.

Ah Shibuya. Great any time of year in any weather. There’s no place in America like Shibuya. Not in NY, not in L.A., not in SF. Enjoy while you are there.

In the meantime, Roy, you need to get the uber-invisible-self-surrounding-cone-of-dryness.

Yep, rain in Tokyo is a real PITA. I feel sorry for the catch people.
