Finding Old Friends in 5 Easy Steps

I think I figured out a way to get in contact with people you’ve lost contact with. I’ve never liked writing letters on paper since I always felt obligated to fill a whole sheet even when sometimes I just wanted to keep in touch. Thank god when email came around! It’s easier to maintain relationships with casual acquaintances without having to call them directly. But all the friends I knew before email just faded away. So how do you get in contact with someone without actually trying to track them down? You can try searching their name on the NET and maybe find something but usually that doesn’t work. Most people probably don’t want to be found anyway. BUT! There is a way!

Let them come to you! I figure that eventually most people will try searching their name and see what comes up. All you need to do is make a page that will appear in their search results.

  1. First you need a website that is fairly well indexed on the Google. This site is getting there.
  2. Next you make a blank page with the name of the person you want to find and a link back to your main page. Make one page for each person.
  3. Then you upload them to your site and wait a month or so until most of the search engines index it. Try it out periodically to see if its working or not.
  4. Then you wait and wait and wait until that person does the search and comes to your page.
  5. If you’re lucky they’ll find it and send you a mail.

That’s it! What do you think? Will it work??

I’m going to do an experiment with this. Will update you on the progress.

Interesting idea! What other text do you have on the page? ‘I want to talk to you’ kind of thing? Hope it works - everyone likes to search for themselves right - or maybe that’s just me.

By the way, how do you know your ‘google ranking’? Is there such a thing? Or you mean how far your site is from the top of a search results page?

Actually I was really sleepy when I wrote that and haven’t had the time to finish or edit it. I’m planning to make a few sample pages with different texts, meta etc and see which ones are the most effective to getting up in the rankings..

There are some shareware apps out there that will give you the ranking of your site for different keywords searched. I don’t remember what the name of the app was but I’ll try to find it, let you know.

Oh, I see. I thought you were talking about some numbers you could get from google - e.g. no. of links to a site (indicating popularity) etc.

There are many blogging index sites which have this kind of rating system. Have you seen any of them? You can see who is linking to your blog and other interesting info. http://www.blogstreet.com I think was one.
