Hallelujah!! I got approved for my jutaku loan and will finally be getting that house I’ve been looking at. For the last few days there was a possibility that I might not get approved. I was afraid that the bank would find out about all the criminal activities I’m involved in, gambling rackets, money laundering, downloading bittorrents etc ;-)
This whole house buying thing started around golden week and was finalized just today. It’s been a bit stressful not knowing the outcome and not being able to make plans, which is why I have not been blogging as often as I usually do. But it all turned out fine and I’ll be moving back to Setagaya at the end of the month! I still got to go and do more paperwork but the hard part is over. Now I can go out and buy curtains and furniture and carpet and most importantly apply for a highspeed fiber-optic internet connection. Actually, I heard that getting connected can take up to 2 months so I’ve already applied for it. Being without broadband is like not having air to breath!
And for those of you who are also thinking about buying a house in Japan, check out Danny’s great write up about the whole process. His original post about their home purchase really drove the idea into my head so I have him to thank for getting me into debt for the rest of my life ;-)

Congrats, Roy!
Envy you, dude!
Omedeto gozaimasu!
Soon you will have the buyers remorse but don’t worry because it will soon change to ‘why didn’t I do this years go.’ You will like coming home to YOUR home.
Sounds like you won’t be all that far away from where I’ll be staying in July. We’ll be close to either Yoga or Futako Tamagawa on the ol’ Denentoshi.
Nice. Congrats, Roy!
Don’t think of it as debt…think of it as a backwards savings account. ;-)
I envy you taking this step as it’s one I’m looking forward to taking myself when I get back to the U.S. It must be really sweet to own the place you live in rather than hand over piles of cash to someone else for temporary residence in a corner of their property.
Congratulations!
Roy! well done… I can’t believe how quickly you went from house searching to close… very speedy.
I look forward to more DYI posts.
Keiko’s friend drives the Nissan Pao — on the other post — her friend likes it.
Can’t wait to see the house.
Congratulations on getting the loan approved. And have fun in making this new house your home!
Congrats on the successful navigation of the loan maze. Let me know if you need any help spending money to get ready to move in. :)
Wow! You ARE rich! Well at least you were. But now you can have your own place, so who cares if you were rich or not. Looking to being invited to a house warming party complete with strippers and the works! :)
Thanks all for the nice comments! It will be a while until I can make the place presentable. For the moment I will be just purchasing the essentials, 60″LCD TV, waterbed, persian rugs etc.
NICE!!! Im hoping to buy in the future but im kinda young, but never to early to plan… Still dont know if i should build there or have a house imported but i like the old japan house look and felling… i dont know much but im still looking… but great job dude.. post some pictures, i’d like to see how its going…
