I’ll be returning to work tomorrow after 3 weeks vacation. I tried to check my work e-mail from home but I realized I forgot my network password. Duh.

This is totally surprising. You were on a 3-week vacation? And you work in a Japanese company in Japan?
I spoke to some engineers when I was in Japan who told me taking vacation was almost unheard of. One guy who wanted to go back to Kyoko during Golden Week had to beg and beg before he was allowed 1 day’s leave: he had to take the morning bullet train to Kyoto on Sat and return by Mon!
Oh did I forget to tell you? Public holidays were also non-existant, without extra pay to, to boot!
While that exists, it is not true of every company. Also, I don’t work for a Japanese Company.
I’m going to Japan this friday for 2 weeks…i will have my password written down because, I too have forgotten my password before…
Speaking of taking vacations in Japan…when i worked at a Japanese company, I never took a vacation. Except, called in sick once 2 days in a row and got REAMED for it. The worst experience of working there was when I worked 36 hours straight…tohoho… BUT, nothing compares to honing in on the culture and learning “the way of the Japanese”
