<description>Living expenses are already too high in Japan.
Think how much IKEA products will cost along with tariffs in Japan.

Generally, living in Japan is not good at all.

<description>And similar to my IKEA-experience as well, though mine was in Oslo, Norway.

The wrong sofa in July and a three-legged bed in September. Why do I never learn...

<description>Your Ikea experience is much like mine, albeit my store was in Emeryville, CA, USA.

Bought two armoires. Broken door on delivery. After two months and leaving +10 customer support vmails (getting only 2 callbacks), I still had to drive the door back to the store (1.5 hr trip) and manually exchange it. By the grace of God, it was in stock.

I totally agree with you - get a truck and haul your goods yourself. And hope you don't have to call for support. But yeah, the style and price keep me coming back.

Congrats on the house! Looks nice.

<description>I don't think it's too much to expect good service but I've found that service in Japan is generally overrated. You can get wonderful service from some places and horrific from others. I've been in shops where the staff ignore you completely and in restaurants where waiters and waitresses are indifferent to customer satisfaction.

My experiences aren't uncommon according to some of my Japanese friends. In fact, at different restaurants, a friend and I were each served chicken that was raw in the center and received a rude response when (politely) asking that it be fully cooked. Given that there is serious risk of salmonella poisoning, the reluctance on the part of these restaurants to cook the food properly was shocking.

I no longer expect good service and am just pleasantly surprised when I get it.
