Baby in the Office
by Roy on July 28, 2006 17:30

If personal visitors are not allowed into the office, doesn’t that mean people should not bring their babies to their desk either? Especially during working hours! The baby that someone brought to work today was extremely cute, adorable and well behaved. However, I’ve never seen anything distract all the women more effectively. “Sorry I can’t answer the phone right now, it’s my turn to hold the baby. ”

I thought to myself “Oh, I have a really cute dog, can I bring it in too? What if I could bring my stripper girlfriends to the office to show all the guys. Is that OK then?” Nothing really against babies in the office, it’s good to break up the monotony of a Friday afternoon, but they make a rule one day and let people break it the next. Is it a rule or not? Should I lighten up? Am I being unreasonable?

Do you have stripper girlfriends??? Can I visit your office on that day too please? Or, please feel free to pass on all my private contact info.

Maybe it’s that babies can’t steal data or do industrial spying, unlike the stripper girlfriends. As for the dog, it probably falls under a separate “no pets” rule no matter how much of a good friend it is.

I’m sure if babies would start showing up everyday, they’d come up with a “no baby” rule, or maybe a “baby friday” or “annual baby day”. :)

Sadly Rick, I do not have any Stripper girlfriends. It was just wishful thinking on a hot Friday afternoon.

Patrick, teehee…if I ever have a baby I’m gonna train him/her to pee on the servers :-)

i’d say lighten up…

as a proud ‘owner’ of a baby i know that there are sometimes extreme situations where a sitter/grandma/daycare/etc are not available to watch the baby, or the baby is sick or whatever…

if it hapopened everyday, then you would have a very valid point.

Roy,
just an observation
and, not being trained in
transactional analysis… I can only opine…
Could you have just expressed a Freudian slip
and revealed that your
biological clock is ticking?

sorry,

Hank
