Kōyō 紅葉 means “Autumn Leaves” It’s December already but this tree was displaying it’s beautiful red leaves last night at a neighborhood intersection. Kirei ne ;-)

Hold on, don’t these leaves only look red because of the traffic light shining on them? :)
Did you know there are two kanji for kōyō? 紅葉 for maple and trees that turn red, and also 黄葉 for ginkgo (いちょう) that only turns yellow. Both read the same.
That’s one of these subtleties that I like most about the language.

Yes, it is an artificial 紅葉 and no I didn’t know about the two different kanji. Thanks! I try to use Macron as often as possible but sometimes I just forget.
