Okapi

An Okapi is a large mammal that looks like a cross between a zebra and a horse but is actually related to the giraffe. You can see the Okapi in the rain forest in Zaire and in Yokohama just off of route 16 at Zoorasia. The weather was so nice yesterday that I decided it was not worth staying in doors studying so some friends and I drove down there. Compared to most Zoos in Japan, Zoorasia is very nice and the animals seemed fairly comfortable with lots of space to roam. Zoorasia is not your conventional zoo and most of the animals there are rare or exotic species. The Okapi is the main attraction and as one can expect in Japan there are many souvenirs and character goods based on the animal. There was even this delicious tortilla sausage which I hope was not made from the meat of the Okapi. It costs ¥600 to enter the zoo which is pretty darn cheap. There’s also plenty of parking if you are planning to drive.

Web Okapi Sightings

Q-TARO.COM POST: Okapi Squid pointed me to this blog posting. I really liked this picture: I’d like to see more okapi merchandise. Maybe people can send me more okapi sightings….
