Cats in Boxes

I’ve had more than the usual number of bills to pay this month which means I can’t venture too far from home else I end up spending more than I should. So on weekends I walk around the immediate neighborhood looking for action. A cheap alternative. Unfortunately there was not much happening at this closed real estate agent, but there were lots of cats in boxes. I counted 5 including one in the back. Looking closely you’ll notice there’s a ladder by the window so that the cats can come and go as they please. If you’re looking for an apartment where you can keep pets I have a feeling this real estate agency will be able to help you.

Maybe they have mouse ‘issues’?
Or for ’security’ reasons?
Anyways Roy, how is the weather like now in JP?

Nah, that’s just the night shift.

But since there’s not too much to do at night, they spend all their time loafing in boxes…

Lovely pictures. :-) I adore cats and they are so cute! I’ve actually never seen them lie around in boxes like that. I guess the cats probably prefer the enclosed space and it might be marginally warmer.

I’ve never actually seen a mouse in Tokyo so somehow I doubt they have a problem with them. I think the way the garbage is handled (only put out for a short time) would discourage vermin. The people in those offices probably just like cats.

There are rats in Tokyo. I wrote about my experiences here.

That’s scary. I hate rats and mice more than cockroaches and other types of unsavory infesting types of creatures.

I don’t doubt what your student said but I’ve never seen a rat or mouse nor any signs of them in my area (no holes) and I grew up in a house where there were mice around despite having cats so I know the signs. The cats tended to prefer catching mice outside of the house rather than inside. :-p

I used to see loads of rats in chuo park in Shinjuku on my lunch break. Also there are a lot down the backstreets outside old ramshackle izakayas. Not that I spent time searching for rats ;-)

Now that you’ve told the World, I hope they don’t get any cat burglers coming in the other way :-)

Speaking of rats, I once saw a huge one in Center Gai running from shelter to shelter towards the station. Guess it had a train to catch.

It is nice of them to give shelter to stray cats. :)
My cat catches anything smaller than her regardless if its indoors or outdoors. She even hunts rabbits.

This is the time of year when rats and mice start looking for warmer places to live. My mom caught 30 mice once in the house. Not at once, but over the span of 4 months. They can get in any hole the size of a dime.

this is a nice story .
could only happen in the Land of mini Kitty-Statues waiving customers to “come-in AND spend their money”

somehow those stray-cats atop murals on corner aLLeys are a warming sight in Japan .
NOT like in Korea where they are neglected, frowned and on the OTHER spectrum against pedigree imports -_-
