Son and Jobs

Son and Jobs
I found this picture on K-Tai Watch and thought I would share it. In case you don’t know who the guy on the left is, that’s Masayoshi Son, CEO of Softbank (Softbank is the company that bought Vodafone in Japan, they also own Yahoo Japan and E*Trade Japan). He looks happy that he got the iPhone ahead of NTT Docomo, doesn’t he? I probably will forego getting the iPhone 3G in this iteration, but in the near future when the 32GB one comes out, and by Docomo I hope, I will probably get one. The guy on the right is Steve Jobs. If you didn’t already know that you have no business reading my blog.

I knew the man on the left had to be an important business big-wig as Jobs won’t pose for pictures with nobodies. When Apple fans approach him and ask for a picture, he shuns them. Mind you, I think wanting to have your picture taken with a famous person is pretty lame.

Anyway, the reduced price on the iPhone is encouraging, but I’m not jumping on the bandwagon. After all, I’m boycotting the notion of a cell phone. ;-)

It’s good to see a post from you again.

No non-Japanese handset manufacturer has had a successful product in Japan, but I think iPhone will do well. Having said that I’m trying a new thing of not getting swept up by the momentum and hype around me of everyone clamoring to get one of these things. I’ll try and wait til it’s matured a bit.

Steve Jobs looks pretty slim. Hope it is not what I think it is…

I actually read a few recent articles saying that he may not be in such good health, that “it” might have returned. I really hope that’s not the case but he’s not looking too healthy.

I know you - you will end up getting one anyway. I dont think I can wait for the 32.

OK, this is totally unrelated to the photo and caption but not to the history of your blog. I just checked out Shinbashi via Google Earth and was wondering, now that summer is nigh, how that high-tech plaza-cooling system might be working out. Any noticeable difference?

Well, I always thought that candy-bar-like phones don’t sell well in Japan. There’s this thing about opening and closing a clam-like phone that makes it, hmmm Japanese-highschool-girl-kawaii.

Still, I thought Steve Jobs looks kinda like someone who over-dieted…..

So dude, you ended up waiting in line for an iPhone anyway right? What’d you get; black or white?

Comment by Roy on 2008-07-13 08:44:50

How did you know that? Did you see my on CNN?

Anyways, after 18hours in line they ran out of 16GB blacks so I got a white. I’m gonna swap with someone later on.

iPhone 3G is awesome, although the “push mail” is not really push mail as we know it in Japan. It’s more like a notification that you got mail.
