Safari

Has anybody else noticed that Safari hangs quite often and sometimes gives you the site not found error? Perhaps I never really noticed it before until I started to use MAC as my main machine. It hangs quite often on CNN.com. Not that I care about reading CNN.com but this is unacceptable performance in this day and age. Firefox for MAC renders fonts in awkward sizes which I don’t particularly like, but I might have to start using that as my default browser unless someone tells me how to fix the Safari hanging problem.

yes, i have noticed it on my iBook G4 using Safari…although it is intermittent, it can be annoying sometimes!

When you installed 10.4, did you do an archive and install, a clean install or just an update? If you did just an update, it may be a better idea to reinstall it with the archive and install option. I do this with every major Mac OS upgrade and I’ve never had a serious problem. I did this with 10.4 and the only Safari problem I have is with it not loading Quicktime files. If never hangs, crashes or says server not found.

(As a slight aside, why do you capitalize Mac? It’s not an acronym…)

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the comment. I did a clean install on with Tiger on the machine I’m having Safari with. Although, I don’t see how this could fix the problem I’m having. No reason for the capitalization..Just shouting it I guess ;)

It doesn’t make sense as to why it works or doesn’t, but for some reason, I’ve found it does. I don’t know if it’s that when you do an update some files that need to get overwritten don’t or what. When I first for 10.1, I just did an upgrade and had all kinds of really odd problems…random crashes, kernel panics, etc. I went back and did an archive and install and it instantly corrected every problem I saw. That made a believer out of me. Just a thought I had about your problem.

I understand about the shouting. If I had a machine as nice as that, I’d want everyone to know about it too.
