Today is day 10 of my first Master Cleanse (MC) and I’m still alive. I decided to end it a day and a half earlier so actually today is the first full day off the cleanse. Below is a summary of my experiences.

First off, I have to give the obligatory disclaimer that even though I didn’t drop dead from the MC, everybody is different so if you decide to do this, make sure to consult with your doctor. Although he’ll probably tell you you’re nuts anyways. What I write here should in no way be construed as a recommendation for the MC or is anywhere near scientific (obviously) so don’t sue me if you get sick from doing it. However, if you do decide to do the MC maybe some of my experiences might be helpful. I also highly recommend participating in the forums where you can ask questions and hear the experiences of others. You should read the book by Stanley Burroughs thoroughly and follow it to a tee.

Basically, I have had a positive experience with the MC. I started on a Friday and was intending to finish on a Sunday 10 days later but decided to stop Saturday afternoon. A day and a half earlier. The reason for ending it early was simply because on the first day off you can only drink orange juice and since my first day off would be on a monday, a work day, I just didn’t want to carry around freshly squeezed orange juice all day long. That’s the only reason. I could have easily kept going for another week but for my first MC I had only commited to doing the minimum 10 days.

For the 8.5 days which I was on the cleanse I consumed nothing but the lemonade consisting of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Nothing else, except on Day Seven when I opened the refrigerator a piece of chocolate jumped into my mouth. Couldn’t help that. If I didn’t do it myself I would not have believed it but humans can live without solid food for days. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical despite all the other accounts by others who had done the MC. You really do have lots of energy and you stop feeling hungry by Day Three. Unfortunately, or fortunately, for me I did not experience any of the detox symptoms which most people experience. Runny nose, body odor, mucus coming out of all different places, ache and pains etc. Therefore either I was clean from the beginning or I haven’t even started the detox stage yet. I’m guessing the latter. For some people who eat a diet heavy on meat and dairy the detox usually takes longer to kick in.

While I took time off work and stayed at home for most of the MC I could have easily gone to the office. I had about as much energy as any other day but felt that my mind was more focused and clear. There were times my legs felt a bit heavy while walking and I did have lower than normal blood pressure but so long as you don’t do any heavy physical labor I think most people should be able to function normally. As a side benefit my skin feels a lot smoother and I lost like 4.5kgs! while retaining most of my lean muscle! I expect to gain this back though as it was mostly water weight and after fasting there’s a swift rebound. But as I mentioned before, the MC is a detox and not a diet.

Some people have reported that after the MC you don’t feel like you want to eat junk food anymore and food you liked before tastes bad etc. Well, I can’t confirm this point yet but I can tell you that I still want to eat pizza and hot dogs and ice cream and hamburgers and tonkatsu and yakiniku etc. Perhaps this is because I haven’t fully detoxed yet? Who knows.

I found the MC to be relatively easy to do. The first 2 days, while your body is adjusting, are the most difficult. You have hunger pains and a slight headache all the time. But after that the hunger pains are gone and you feel pretty good most of the time. The food cravings remain though as it seems that these are mostly psychological and not physical. The lemonade is easy to make and drink. The worst part of the MC is the Salt Water Flush (SWF) which you have to drink every morning followed by the countless number of runs to the toilet. The saline salt mixed with the water prevents your body from absorbing it so it basically goes right through you flushing all the crap out with it. After drinking the SWF, the eliminations begin and start from looking like regular diarrhea to black and brown, then bright yellow and finally clear as water. I found it interesting to watch the junk loosened from my intestinal tract cleaned out every morning. I didn’t see any of the rope or mucus blobs that other people eliminated. That’s probably still in there somewhere. If you do the SWF make sure you are at least 5 metres (literally) from the toilet for about an hour after drinking it. Believe me, when it comes, IT COMES! And you have to RUN to the toilet.

So would I do this again? Yes, in fact I think that January would be a good time to do the MC. I’m already planning to do a longer cleanse to start off next year. It’s good to begin the cleanse on a weekend when you can stay at home and also end it on the weekend so you can prepare the orange juice and vegetable soup necessary when coming off the MC.

Although nothing particularly dramatic happened, here is my day by day account of the MC.

The Night Before

Tonight, I drank the Senna Tea and watched Elizabethtown on DVD. My stomach started to grumble a bit. Probably more from getting hungry then the tea. With all the maple syrup I bought I just couldn’t resist having a dinner of pancakes and sausages. I feel guilty already. I’m going to try and sleep now.

Day One

Woke up this morning with a slight headache and made the SWF. Let me just say this, drinking 1L of water is hard enough, trying to drink 1L of salt water is just impossible. It’s not so much the taste but the amount. I could down the first 500ml but the last half was a struggle. It’s like if you had to eat 10 hot dogs. You could enjoy the first 5 but rest are torture. Now I know why everyone skips the salt water. But I’m commited to doing it every day!

In the morning, I went to the can at least 20 times and mostly what came out was water. You really need to stay near the toilet for this part.

I drank 7 glasses of lemonade but still felt hungry all day. While watching some movies all the scenes with people eating were very distracting. I began to crave things like roast beef sandwiches, indian curry, thai food you name it. One thing I noticed is how much our lives revolve around food and how so much eating stems from boredom than actually need. Once you stop eating you realize how much time is spent thinking and planning about what you’re going to eat.

Day Two

Woke up feeling better but the salt water flush was brutal. I added one extra tablespoon of salt which made it really potent. I felt like I was going to throw up. After drinking it slowly I felt bloated and on the verge of death. There’s got to be an easier way to do this. Then the bowel movements began and I was in and out of the toilet 30 times. My water bill is going to double with all the flushings. The color of my “elminations” gradually became transparent and I started to feel better. I was extremely thirsty from all the salt water and was tempted to run across the street to the vending machine and get a diet coke.

I’ve never really been a food person but today I noticed that everyone on TV is constantly eating something delicious. Geez!! I had to turn it off.

On one of the MC forums I’m browsing someone asks if she can smoke while on the MC. ha

Just watched this video on youtube and realized that for the SWF I was supposed to use 2 teaspoons of salt and not 2 tablespoons. Doh!! Today I used 3 tablespoons which was probably why I was dying this morning. Well now I should be able to do the flush easily tomorrow.

I made another lemon run tonight and cleaned out the local supermarket. If anyone around here is also doing the MC, they’re gonna be stuck. Walking home I could smell what everyone in the neighborhood was having for dinner! Curry, tempura, soba..oh man..

Surprisingly, I don’t have any cravings for sweets like ice cream or cake or chocolate but I am craving greasy oily food like steak and potatos, chili dogs, yakiniku and also junk food like chips and popcorn etc.

The way to deal with the cravings is just to tell yourself that after 10 days you can eat any of that crap if you want. I’ve never been good at delaying gratification so if anything I might gain some more patience from doing the MC.

Day Three

This time I put the right amount of salt in the SWF so it was not as bad as yesterday. But still could only drink 800ml of the stuff. The number of toilet runs was less.

I’m feeling pretty good and no hunger pains! I went outside and cleaned the garage, sprayed down the front steps and swept the road in front of the house. I might go for a drive.

Evening. I’m beginning to crave greasy food. Gyoza, bacon, yakisoba..anything..

I had a mint tea and then later drank the Senna tea and went to sleep.

Day Four

No more headaches and feeling very good. I’m more alert and my mind is clear. I can’t believe that I would feel this way after not eating anything except the lemonade for 4 days. While others have said this is how I was going to feel, I didn’t really believe it until I tried it myself. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like there is detoxing going on yet. People who eat a lot of meat and dairy (like me) usually take longer for the detox stage to kick in. I guess I’ll have to wait and see if this is true.

Drove my girlfriend to Haneda in the morning and was planning to stop there but the parking was completely full so I dropped her off and looked for the nearest combini because I really had to go to the toilet. Talk about torture! Make sure you are fully eliminated before venturing out. You’ll regret it. It was a nice day for top down driving though!!

I’m having more cravings today but they’re psychological not physical. I don’t feel like my body wants a double-cheeseburger but my mind sure does. I went to buy more lemons and also bought a lime for variety. One lime cost ¥300!! Insane. But it’s a small price to pay for breaking up the monotony.

Day Five

Decided to forego the SWF today and drink the laxative tea instead. It seems to have the same effect only it takes longer for the toilet runs to start.

I went to Shimokitazawa and was so tempted to pig out at TGI Friday’s. How disgusting it that? Actually, I’m not craving food or feeling hungry I’m just getting completely bored of not eating. I can’t really explain it. Feeling rather energetic otherwise although there were a few times I felt lightheaded while walking around outside.

I discovered a chocolate bar hidden behind some condiments at the back of the refrigerator. I licked the chocolate and that was enough to make my stomach start grumbling and hurting. Not going to do that again.

Day Six

Halfway!!

The times at the toilet are getting more painful in the tummy. So far only liquid eliminations are coming out but it feels as if there’s something else in there not ready to come out yet or not able to come out because it’s hard or impacted or something. I drank the complete 1000ml of the SWF this morning to see if I could get whatever it is out of me. But no dice. Maybe tomorrow.

I didn’t feel hungry at all today and have lots of energy. Still not detox symtoms.

Day Seven

This mornings eliminations were a bit different. The first few times were almost black like ink. Very interesting. Something must be working. Nothing of solid has come out though.

I’m always trying to make the lemonade without pulp to see if what’s coming out of me is more than just the lemon pulp. We’ll find out tomorrow.

Some evil spirit took over my body and I uncontrollably ate a piece of chocolate!! Sh*t. Now my stomach is really grumbling and I’m wondering if I’ll have to restart counting today as Day One. Well, that’s not going to happen. I’ll just put this mistake behind me and push on to the end of 10 days. What’s done is done.

Day Eight

Three more days to go…

The SWF is getting really tiring although easier for me to handle. People can get used to anything.

Drank the lemonade, drank the tea.

Still none of the detox symptoms.

Day Nine

The SWF was really easy to stomach today. Some more of that black stuff came out. Cool.

This afternoon I went to the supermarket and got some oranges for Monday but on the way home I decided that I would stop fasting today. The main reason being that I just didn’t want to bother with carrying around freshly squeezed orange juice to work on Monday (today was Saturday). So if I ended today at least I would be eating somewhat normally by Monday. Also, considering my experiences so far I didn’t think I would gain any more benefits by extending it just one day.

In the evening, I sqeezed the OJ and boy did it taste good!!! My stomach started to grumble a bit but it was fine. On the first day off you’re only supposed to drink OJ but I ate half a papaya and at night I had some more assorted fruit. Didn’t seem to bother by stomach so much.

Day Ten

Had some more OJ in the morning and later this afternoon I had some soup made of fresh vegetables from Hokkaido. Also had some steamed corn which was really good but probably not a good idea.

I will be continuing with the mostly fruit and vegetable diet for a few more days before starting to eat any meat.

Thanks for going to all the trouble of keeping a diary. It was pretty interesting to see your progress.

While I’ll readily accept some of your desire to eat was psychological, some of it probably was also physical. While I’m sure the lemonade concoction covers some (or possibly many) nutrional bases, it can’t possibly cover them all and your body is pretty clever about sending signals to your brain about what it needs. That doesn’t mean you can’t suppress them in the short term but you probably craved what you needed in part.

It’s not surprising that you felt weak sometimes when walking. I would be very surprised if not consuming complex carbohydrates didn’t have an impact on how glycogen was stored (or not) in your muscles. Additionally, I’m not the least bit surprised that you may stop being hungry after awhile because you probably have adequate blood sugar stability (though your stomach may not like it and will grumble ).

If nothing else, you can see your experience as proof of your ability to master your appetite and engage in rigid self-discipline. Kudos to you for that. I don’t think I could do it without a more serious motivation (like an illness).

Where does the maple syrup come in? I thought I read about that somewhere.

Comment by Lulu on 2008-06-19 00:16:10

Maple syrup is found in the southern part of Quebec, Canada and in some of the northeastern states of the USA. Each spring, it is tapped from the maple tree as a clear liquid and boiled down until it becomes a syrup. It is very smooth, sweet, and has a lovely smell when food is being cooked with it.

Comment by Roy on 2006-08-20 22:20:43

The maple syrup provides the sugar, minerals, vitamins required to keep nourish your body.

Thanks for writing such a detailed account of the detox. I have been wanting to try but always felt that i might either (1) die of hunger pangs or (2) embarassment with stomach growling.

it’s nice to know that it isnt so difficult but woah.. you really have good discipline.

Wow! This blog entry made me really hungry. Had a sandwich and a cup of instant noodles. Still skeptical about the MC thing though.

Comment by Leo on 2006-08-21 00:50:17

Thanks for the post. It was very interesting to read. Good point that this was a detox and not a diet. I know that a lot of the time, when I’m hungry, its because I’m depressed, bored, stressed, etc. I do have one question though, why does MC have you drink only orange juice on the first day off of MC? Why not say a broth of some sort?

Comment by Mike on 2006-08-21 07:48:35

I was wondering Roy, if maybe you didn’t have the large hard eliminations many other people have reported becaue you have been living in Japan so long and are on a rice/Japanese diet?

I once read a story by an MS sufferer who claimed he cured himself of MS in 5 years by not eating any gluten (wheat) products. We get the word “glue” from “gluten”. Maybe western diets cause much more impacting and crap building up in the intestines because of wheat gluten acting as “glue” on the intestinal walls? Just a hunch.

Most people in Japan don’t have the obesity problem westerners do so maybe a lot of this problem in the west is due to peoples’ intestines getting clogged up withg gluten and thus slowing down the digestive tract which means food sits in there longer?

Just a theory I have….

Comment by Roy on 2006-08-21 08:01:12

Mike, that could part of the it. However, even though I live in Japan my diet is not 100% Japanese. I hardly eat white rice, only brown rice when possible. And eat more bread than I would like.

Also, there’s a lot of Japanese food that is really bad for you. Most of what gets exported to the west is the traditional stuff but there’s a lot of junk here too. Have you ever eaten Okonomiyaki? Carbohydrate hell…

Comment by Roy on 2006-08-21 08:03:06

Leo, the orange juice is used to ease you back into eating and gradually getting your disgestive system used to solid food again. It’s just the first step. The second day you move onto vegetable soup.

Comment by Rick on 2006-08-21 09:46:14

I meant that every day you talked about the SWF and the lemonade. But what’d you do with the maple syrup? Just spoon it in your mouth? and the cayenne pepper? or were they both the lemonade ingredients? Cause if you craved sweets wouldn’t it be more “legal” to just eat a couple sppons of maple syrup vs. the chocolate that forced it’s way into your mouth?

Comment by Roy on 2006-08-21 09:50:08

Yeah, the maple syrup is part of the lemonade. 2 tbsp lemon juice + 2 tbsp maple syrup + 1 dash of cayenne pepper + 300cc of water. I didn’t really crave sweets. But my mouth did begin to get bored of not chewing..

Comment by Mike on 2006-08-21 10:22:10

Yeah, I’ve had Okonomiyaki. I thought it was actually more nutritional than the food we have here in the west (except for the greasy cooking oil use in most Oko places).

I agree Japan has junk food too. Just thought their diet was a bit more healthy than ours.

Comment by Tiffany on 2006-09-05 12:20:12

Okay, so i too have tried the MC. Actually I am currently trying it…here’s my thing, I have a salad at about 2:00 everyday. I apparently do’t have a s much self control as everyone else, but it is the end of day 3 and I’ve lost 5 lbs. drinkin my SWF and my tes…Drinkin the “crap” out of my lemonade too. Not sure if the salad is adversly effecting the benifits or outcome of the cleanse, but you gotta do what you gotta do…or atleast I do…anybody else out there cheatin and eatin?

Comment by tamme on 2008-06-16 16:57:37

yes tiffany, i cheated. my headache on the first day was too much too take. i ate a banana and some crackers. I couldnt help it,but i think after the headaches go away, ill be ok. And i agree,ya gota do what ya gota do.

Comment by Kristina on 2008-06-20 12:16:59

I am trying to start it ‘right’ as well but can’t seem to get past 1100 am and am starving. Usually eat some more greasy junk and say I will start again in the evening. Going to try and get it right over the weekend. Works always makes me want to eat all day. Guess to get out of actually doing the work.
Good luck on yours!! Hopefully you will still post on here so we can chat and support each other through it.

Hi,

I’m trying to find a store in Tokyo which sells Grade B Maple Syrup and also the senna laxative tea. I usually find things I want by accident but this time, I just want to start the diet without searching the many international or specialty shops. Can you tell me where you bought your syrup and tea. I have tons of Grade A maple syrup but I want to do it properly.
Another thing is that I go to school Monday to Friday and am worried about the SWF. If I start on Friday, would I be ok for school on Monday (can’t really leave class anytime I want).
Thanks for any help.

Comment by Roy on 2007-04-22 22:53:09

I think Tengu Foods should have what you need
http://www.alishan-organic-center.com/en/tengu/

I ordered my stuff directly from the U.S.
https://therawfoodsite.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=42&osCsid=ae5a519cdd0c88c4221f490200ce5ff8

I would start on the Friday and stay home the weekend. You have to do the SWF everyday and usually after about an hour most of it should have passed through you so you don’t have to worry about an explosion in public. By monday you’ll get used to this. Good luck with the cleanse!

Comment by yolanda on 2007-08-03 05:03:20

I am currently on day 11 of the MC and I have lost 20 pounds. I have only done the SWF once (and that was on a Friday evening at around 7:30 pm.) With work, I was not able to do the SWF during the week. Instead, I drank the tea in the morning and at night and I still saw great results. Other than doing the SWF daily, I followed the plan exactly. So, there is hope if you can’t do the flush as required. Just be sure to drink the tea!

OMG you are sooo funny. I was trying to get inspired because i am only on day 2, but i was laughing soo hard at your ‘ licking the chocolate’…thanks for bringing in the sense of humor. I am pretty confident that i will go through till Saturday :)

Comment by Alicia on 2008-04-09 01:25:23

Roy,

Thanks for your diary. I am on my 3rd MC attempt. Last April, I went for 9 days and broke my fast improperly on fast food. Though I didn’t end well, I still had gorgeous results. My skin glowed, my hair softened, and I lost 15 pounds. Additionally, my thoughts became clear and positive; I felt like I could conquer the world. Ate on day 9 because I was out with friends and, I don’t know, I just broke.

Attempted my second MC this past January. Cleansed for 4 days only. Detox was hellish that time around. Spent Days 2-5 in bed with drool flowing from my mouth, nose, and other places you don’t want to know about. My throat eventually swelled nearly shut and my eyes became swollen too. I was pretty sure I was detoxing, but it felt like I was dying, and I quit on Day 5 with a wonderful bowl of soup, and by Day 6, I was beginning to feel alive again.

Inspite of ending at the halfway point, once again, I had beautiful results: like before, my hair softened, my skin glowed, and in the weeks that followed, I found myself waking up with no morning sleepy stuff in my eyes and with no morning breath. In fact, my body odor changed completely and in a very nice way.

Further, though I didn’t lose much weight, bloating and gassiness disappeared altogether.

Today, I am on Day 2 of my new MC attempt. Yesterday, I was emotional. I love food and the idea of not eating tormented me. You would have thought a loved one died. Today, I am fine, except for a dull headache. I have a feeling this MC is going to run much more smoothly than the last one, and I look forward to the journey, as well as the results!

Roy…what a great description of how it’s done. I am on day 7 of the MC and I’m feeling pretty darn good. I do know about those cravings tho. They are awful…one day you want inn and out burger the next thai food or a calzone! Very random foods pop into your mind, but its definitely all about will power. The SWF sucks but maybe I’ll try the tea in the morning instead. My whole softball team and some of my family members have noticed a change in my weight and my appearance. I’ve got them curious about the MC. Good stuff…I have really felt an impact.

Actually, You are not suppose to have that cold it has to be at room temp, secondly it helps to make it fresh everytime, that way it goes down smoothly. And if you get grade 3 MS is better then Grade 2. And make sure to drink alot of water…..Good Luck!!!

Thanks for any advise -I would be upset to know I have been doin git wrong ….it is going so well.

Does the veggie soup on the second day need to be homemade or is it ok to get maybe organis soup from whole foods, etc.???

Thank you Roy for sharing your story. I just started my first try at the Master Cleanse today and love the way your blog is arranged. The information you provided was very helpful. Especially the disclosure about the hunger, I am half way through the first day, and headaches, I am using the ensuing anger to throw out the lingering junk food in the house.

I love your blog and hope to start my own soon.

Good luck on Round 2.

I started the MC today and I truly enjoyed your story. I thought I was going to pee in my pants when I read that you had too much salt in the first few SWF. I’m sorry to chuckle at your pain. I too got a lot out of that utube video. MUCH easeir making it in a jug and having it around all day. One tip, get a juicer. Nothing fancy or expensive, mine was $20.00,and well worth it. I got 12 tbls (3/4 cup) out of 3 lemons instead of 6 or 7. I decided to keep my own journal…thanks for yours!!! Dana

I have just finished the 10 day MC yesturday and have been drinking OJ all day. I didn’t find it too difficult either but did have a migraine on the 2nd day…I took 3 Advil liguid migraine pills or it would have been a full doozy!!! I haven’t had any other headaches the whole time! I am very hungry now this afternoon and might have a peice of fruit like you did!
Congratulations on making it so far, it isn’t the easiest thing but easier than we thought it would be! I am adjusting my diet to include mostly raw foods, I am very excited ! Good Luck!

Candice from Canada :)

According to the book it’s VERY important to make the drink fresh, room temperature and drink it within 10 minutes of making it. You can make a concentrate of the lemon juice and the maple syrup if you can’t make it fresh but the cayenne and the water shouldn’t be added until you are ready to drink it. It has something to do with enzymes.

If you have to refrigerate your lemons take 2 days worth out at a time and keep them on the counter. WE are having issues with fruit flies in Tennessee so I have to keep mine in a brown, paper bag.

I just completed day 2. Day 1 was really, really hard. I am a total foodie and I am mad craving everything. The days are not so bad but the evenings are really tuff.

I’ve really enjoyed reading about your experience on the Master Cleanse. First person accounts of the trials and tribulations of this remarkable challenge are so important to anyone attempting the cleanse. I am an acquisitions editor for the publishing company that printed “The Complete Master Cleanse”. Currently, we are seeking the experiences of real people who wrote down what life was like on the Master Cleanse for a new book. I was hoping you might be interested in submitting your writing. Thanks again for sharing!

Ha! I love what you wrote. I am at the end of day 8, and am doing really well. I have not been hungry once, however I have had some crazy cravings! Yesterday when I got home from work my husband asked me what I craved that day and I just started going off about how all day I had wanted Swiss Cheese! He asked what I wanted it on and I said “mmmm swiss cheese on well, you know…..anything!” I don’t even like swiss cheese! I must point out that it seems a lot of people crave Thai food. I have wanted Thai food since day one! I wonder what that is about. Maybe because curry has so many ingredients in it, and they all sound good. Who knows. Oh, and I can sympathise with you on eating the chocolate. I didn’t have chocolate, but I did lick a piece of zucchini. :)

Well done :-) I did 10 days on *The Cleanse* and am just finishing now. (I wanted to do 14, but my colleague is hosting a function at her house and I need to stop the cleanse now in order to attend her event, while not seeming rude. Of course, in order to avoid relapsing into bad habits, I won’t be eating the same foods as other attendees.) I, however, was told to take 4 days to reintroduce myself to food. 2 days with diluted OJ and the lemonade mixture. Then 1 day of drinking lemonade and diluted OJ throughout the day, and the soup broth for dinner with a few of the veggies from the soup. The fourth day would involve mostly broth and fresh veggies. After that, it’s good to avoid meat, dairy products, and eggs. I’ve been a vegetarian for two years, so I’ll definitely avoid meat and I plan on drastically limiting my intake of dairy and eggs. (Hint: If you wanna make sure you’re off to a good start after the cleanse, plan your meals in advance and stick to them!)

I definitely think your chocolate slip-up was psychological. I actually managed to overcome cravings, so I succeeded! I also had the mucus and body odor problems, and felt fatigued days 1 & 2. I was thinking that maybe you didn’t completely detox–because of the little chocolate that attacked you in your kitchen–and that, in turn, you couldn’t experience these symptoms. Then I recalled other cleansing stories where others reported not experiencing one or more of the symptoms I and other people have.

On the bright side, you definitely have way more discipline than most people. Additionally, if you ever do the cleanse again, I’ve heard it’s easier the next time around.
A ver ~ we’ll see :-)

Today is day 5 for me but I almost broke last night. The cravings for food can be overwhelming at times but I am determined to complete the full 10 days.
My husband to be, in 30 days, and I started the cleanse together but he has already given up. He was supporting me in the beginning but now he wants me to quit. He insists that it is not health and I am not getting the daily nurturance that are required to stay healthy? How can I convince him that this is right for me? I feel good but I am tried quite a bit more than I was before I started.
