Some of you may remember that I did the Master Cleanse aka Lemonade Diet 2 years ago. Well, I’m doing it again and am currently on day 6. I would actually be on day 7 today if I hadn’t eaten half a pizza on day 1. So I had to start over. Anyways, it’s a lot easier this time around and I am planning to go 14 days. Unless I break down and decide to go to Brozer’s to get a burger! I’ve heard they are the best hamburgers in Tokyo. The girl sitting beside me at work keeps telling me how pale I look so if it gets any worse I may have to stop before 14 days. But that means I’ll be able to eat that burger sooner!! Yay! In November, I will do it again and target 21 days which is the ideal length for the cleanse, so they say.
You may also have noticed that I’ve not updated this blog for some time. I’ve realized that I have too many things I want to do but never seem to complete any of them. Then I read somewhere, I think on Lifehack.org, that the most effective way to get something done is to do nothing else but that one thing. This is common sense, but I’ve always been a multitasker so I thought I would try focusing all my energy into one thing at a time. The unfortunate consequence is that I haven’t been spending time wandering the streets looking for blog fodder, hence the lack of updates. Hopefully, this will change soon.

It’s good to see you back again, if only for a one-off post once in awhile.
The funny thing about blogging is that it seems really meaningful when your are into it and plugging away regularly, but you find you don’t really miss it when you stop. I’m guessing that’s why you aren’t finding the time to post. All the time you “gained” by stopping is rapidly absorbed by other things anyway…and most of those things are probably more meaningful and useful anyway, though you do miss the people who you “meet” through the blog.
Good luck with the cleanse. You’re a better person than I!
Hi Shari,
You absolutely right! After I stopped last year, and then restarted this year I thought that I would get right back into the same groove, but quickly realized that I was not as into it as before. Soon other things just felt more important. Funny how that is, isn’t it?
I’d recommend this book: The NOW Habit - A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-Free Play. Not saying you’re a procrastinator, but really gives you insight on how to handle many things at once.
Coincidentally, I have this book in my Amazon shopping cart as “save for later” but maybe I’ll get it now that you’ve recommended it.
I’m getting roped into doing a soup diet next week, perhaps that could lead on to a lemonade cleanse. I think the hardest thing for me would be coming home and not preparing something, its too much like a ritual.
Good to see you post again and good luck on the cleansing. Since you’ve done it before 14 day shouldn’t be a problem
I think its great that you are able to blog now and then. I have to deal with not having the latest on inside Tokyo, without your blog. Keep up the good work.
Hank
My wife always points out that I’m trying to make too many “difficult” changes to myself simultaneously and they always end up in failure. I’m trying “baby steps” now. We’ll see how that works. I will now also have to try to find a “Brozers” next time I’m in Japan. I just declared myself a “burger loser” on Kuba’s blog for missing opportunities to get to a In-N-Out Burger when in LA and to Fatburger when I was practically next door to one in Vegas recently. Oops - sorry about mentioning those while you’re on MC :). Hang in here. Hope the morning salt water thing isn’t as bad this time.
Maybe that cleanse will give a lots of power to you Roy, so maybe you will get inspiration for posting again ;) Good luck!
your doctor was right when he thought you were crazy. detox diets or cleansings do nothing particularly. there’s no need to stress your cleansing organs i.e liver and kidney. the good feeling or power you feel is just the result of starving yourself for 1 week and the relief of getting food back in.
what it’s actually doing is lowering your metabolism rate, so that when u do come off the diet (or lemon juice) you actually burn off energy or fat slower. resulting in putting more weight on after you go back on normal food. problem with metabolism rate is that it drops fairly fast but picks up very slowly as the body’s way to ensure survival in times of no food. resulting in putting on weight easier for a longer time after the diet (and thus eclisping the weight people lose on these diets which is essentially just fluid loss rather than fat loss. and it is rather easy to replenish body fluids)i havent looked properly but essentially the salt fluid you take is just what people use before they do endoscopies.
even the burger u showed in that pic looks lean and healthy by any standard. just dont eat too much. japan food is usually healthy.
Hey Roy - are you OK? Have you passed out on the floor? Day 14? :)
OOPs - I meant, “Day 21?”.
I think the hardest thing for me would be coming home and not preparing something, its too much like a ritual.
