I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve been frequenting this “Lady’s Convenience Store” near the office more and more these days. It’s really just a glorified AM/PM with cosmetics, more female oriented magazines replacing the porn, supplements and healthier food options, which is what I like about the shop. I bought this healthy bento and bean salad for lunch. And so did those 2 dudes walking out in the first photo. There were in fact a bunch of Salarymen going into the place to buy these bentos. The only problem with the store is that there is only a women’s restroom. No men’s toilet!! Sexual discrimination or what?
It’s only convenient for ladies. The men can do what they sometimes do and pee in the street. ;-)

I think, to be “really” female-oriented, replacing the porn mags is not good enough. Replacing the porn mags for guys with the porn mags for women is the way to go.
I live in Taiwan. There are over 3,000 7-11 convenient stores in Taiwan. They sell everything including BENTOs, which are very similar to that you posted. In most cases, they sell Japanese-styled BENTOs like KATSU-DON, SOBA and so on. They also sell 御飯團 which is very popular for breakfast or lunch break snacks.
That’s a lot of 7-11s for such a small country. In Japan there are 11,329 7-11s so 3,000 for Taiwan is quite a large number. I imagine that there must be fewer of the other types of convenience stores to compete, that’s why the number is high.
ohh, before you keep indulging in bentos, you might wanna read the article in japan times on what preservatives and stuff they put in them! why else can you eat an onigiri after it has been sitting a day out in the hot sunlight? but a homemade one goes bad in hours!
