Found these photos of actress Wakao Ayako tonight while surfing for something completely different. If you’ve watched a lot of classic Japanese films you probably know who she is. Compared to most of the actresses of her era she had a very contemporary allure which I found extremely attractive. I first saw her in Kenji Mizoguchi’s Street of Shame (1956) when I was a film student. She plays a supporting role as a prostitute in a brothel called “Dreamland”. It’s a very good film if you are ever looking for something to watch.
