7-Elevens are selling PS3

Has anyone else noticed that 7-Elevens all over Tokyo are selling PS3s and they have them in stock too? I’ve seen the same situation in at least a half a dozen 7-Elevens today. Usually they have 2 or 3 60GB ones sitting behind the counter. I guess this means that PS3 are no longer in demand. Not even 2 months since the launch! Now I feel kind of stupid lining up for 16 hours in Yurakucho when I can walk 5 minutes from home and get one.

hi!
maybe that’s what they want: now you know that lining up only got you a ps3 some months earlier! maybe some of the otaku now will leave the cue out and wait for the next 7-eleven to sell it… some months later.

i think that won’t happen. i have never seen anything like japanese cues, but i guess there are many who think of it as fun(?). going to buy one at the corner is no fun at all – you don’t have to fight for it, right? whould you?

bye.

p.s.: very positive: if you get bored in the midst of the night… you can simply get yourself one… for breakfast ;-)

Maybe everybody is broke after Christmas and can’t afford one. Let’s wait a couple of weeks and see what happens.

The Wii doesn’t seem to have this problem though.

You know, years ago when major games like Dragonquest and Final Fantasy came out masses of people lined up for days in advance to buy the game. The PS3/Wii lines were nothing in comparison. I think that’s when the first otaku related lining up started. But then convenience stores started to take pre-orders, followed by online shopping and now no ones would line up for a game. I think most of the Japanese people lined up to buy the consoles to relive those “glory days”

Maybe people believe it’s too expensive, and are waiting for blueray discs to hit the videoclubs massively before they invest. That’s what I am going to do.I think good games and blueray discs will be released simultaneously from 6-12 months from now.

According to this: http://curmudgeongamer.com/2006/05/history-of-console-prices-or-500-aint.html

PS3 isn’t the most expensive console ever made, but it is rather expensive, concerning the current competition. At this time I would buy nintendo stocks and not Sony!

Wow, thats cool!
I was in Yodobashi Akiba 2 days ago. They had like probably 15 or so PS3s and billions of DS lites. The queue was f*ing ridiculous!! Spiraled 4 times near the counter, along all 3 sides of the wallt and past the figures dept. and DVD/CD debt. entrance!! I bet all the DSs are gone…

I look at the time between an item being in demand and either harder to get or more expensive as buying time with a product. You got your console and could enjoy it for a certain amount of time before everyone else. There’s value in that for a lot of people. It’s also exciting to get something you really want during the initial buzz about it.

I view DVDs the same way. A lot of people who paid more for MASH individual seasons as they were released complained about the mega-set which included all seasons and its low price but they had those DVDs for years before those who waited did.

It really depends on how important the early access and experience is and how much you enjoy having something.
