Tonight, I actually went out for dinner with friends rather than being antisocial and going straight home to bed at 9:30PM like I’ve been doing recently. Alex (the guy in the middle) recommended this genuine Hawaiian place in Akasaka. OGO is run by a Hawaiian who came to Japan about 2 years ago. I didn’t get his name but he was very friendly. It’s supposed to be the best place for REAL Hawaiian food in Tokyo but since I have never been to Hawaii I have to take the word of my friend on that. Usually, the place is packed with people, mostly Hawaiians apparently, but tonight there were only a few other customers and we could relax listening to some Big Island music that sounded very similar to Okinawan music. Again, I didn’t have a proper camera and the place was rather dark so these pictures really stink.

Besides the fact that I’m not much of a food person, these dishes had Hawaiian names that all sounded the same and I could not remember any of them, sorry. But, I can tell you that they looked better than these washed out photos and tasted great too. I didn’t get a chance to try the SPAM omusubi. Afterwards we had two rounds of Vanilla KONA coffee.

A view from the window of the restaurant.
The narrow streets of Akasaka are always jammed
with taxis on a friday night trying to pickup
a drunken salaryman leaving a hostess bar.

On the way back to the station,
I passed by this Jangara ra-men shop.
I don’t know what kind of ra-men it is or whether it is good or not,
but the sign seemed like so much fun I almost felt like lining up
for a bowl. It’s all in the marketing.

Hmm… The picture on the far left looks like assorted Poke probably Ahi and Tako Poke and something else. Next to that looks like Chicken Katsu to me, and next to that there’s Lomilomi Salmon w/ Chicken long rice and Kahlua Pig then last on the far right is Fried Mandoo. Damn… that does look pretty damn good. I miss food from back home so much. It must have cost you an arm and a leg in Japan though. I would kill for some Kahlua pig and cabbage right now!
Yup, those are the names of most of the dishes. Although it wasn’t chicken katsu but beef katsu. You should bring some friends there if you have a chance, it’s a very cozy place.
