I added a RSS feed to track comments. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while but just didn’t get around to it. But now that I don’t have mail on my server, I can’t get comments alerts anymore so I have to monitor them via RSS reader. Let me know if there’s anything wrong.
RSS for Comments

Good work! I just see one problem with your feed, the item date is the entry’s while it should be the comment’s. Also it seems times aren’t in the right timezone (for your blog’s feed too).
I don’t see why you can’t get email alerts anymore though? Can’t you just get them sent to your gmail account?
Patrick,
I didn’t notice the time problem since my RSS reader (Newz Crawler) seems to display it correctly.
When my server would send me an email alert, like when I got a new comment, it would send it from MY domains mail XXX@q-taro.com but when I moved the domain from my host to google. I don’t have any domain to use to send mail from. Does that make sense? I’m don’t really know much about how mail servers work so haven’t had time to look into a fix for this.
> I don’t have any domain to use to send mail from.
The “from” email address can be anything you set in your MT config, it really shouldn’t matter. And your site’s SMTP server can still be used to send mail even though it doesn’t receive your mail anymore. I do the same for my domain, my email is really routed elsewhere by pointing the MX entry to another domain.
So, using your same settings as before should still work.
Perhaps the problem with my mail server was that I was using an email address of the same domain and it was trying to resolve it. Checking my email on the server my inbox was filled with mail undeliverable messages and saying that my email address was not found.
I’ve changed my author email to something completely different so hope it works this time.
Yes, it works now!!
Great! I’ll keep watching that comments RSS anyway, as it’s fun to see all new comments. :)
What RSS reader do you recommend to use?
