This was unexpected. Up until about 4:30pm, I had little interest in the Wii and was not planning to get one. After the PS3 line-up fiasco, I was especially not interested in lining up for the Wii Tokyo launch yesterday. But this afternoon, Brad and I were lounging around in Akihabara after our original plans were cancelled. We were coming down the escalator in Yodobashi Akiba when suddenly in front of us a couple guys were pushing a trolley piled high with Wiis. Wow. We thought they were all sold out. I lined up with Brad to keep him company and had no intention to buy. Then suddenly I blacked out. When I came to, the kind people at Yodobashi were handed me a Wii and Zelda. I have no memory of how it happened. Very strange.
I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by how much fun the Wii is and how natural the nunchuck controller feels. Although you have to maintain a firm grip on it. It’s been reported that the remote controller has slipped from excited people’s hands, flying across their living rooms and putting a hole through their flat screen TVs. Be careful kids. Anyways, I’ve been playing Zelda for a few hours now and have to force myself to stop. Nintendo definitely has a winner here!

seee. what i mean. its great!
Really? Do you think that they still have some?
“better living through high-tech gadgetry”
i can appreciate your sickness because alas, i am similarly afflicted. ; )
LOL
I remember you saying that you was NOT going to get one!
“This was unexpected.”
No, actually, it wasn’t.
That happened to me yesterday at BicCamera :D
Say, Do you know whether the Zelda game have english support (subtitles, voices ..etc)? I would love to give it a try!!
Cheers mate!
I’m sure I would do the same thing when the Wii will arrive in a few days in France… Damn, I must stay at home, don’t buy it, don’t buy it…
Ryo, the Japanese version of Zelda doesn’t have English. It’s all in Japanese. I don’t think the US version of the game will work on the Japanese console either.
Now here’s the big question. Do you enjoy it MORE than your PS3?
OUCH! no luck for Ryo! anyone want to buy a Wii? :D
Rick, it’s a different experience from the PS3.
While my motivation to buy the PS3 was mostly for the BlueRay/DVD and also to enjoy the nice graphics for some games, Wii was purely for gaming. The graphics for Zelda are only so-so compared to Resistance on PS3 but it feels more like the games of old with the new controller making it more fun. I think once games for the PS3 mature I’ll be playing that more, however I’d say the Wii will appeal to a broader range of people including non-gamers.
I also bought a BlueRay movie and must say that I can’t watch regularly DVDs anymore. Amazing!!
I’m guessing that Blu-ray disc is displaying at 1080P with a ton of other extras. While I must admit that I dislike renting DVD’s now that I have access to alot of HD content online, I did notice that on some movies, Full HD is just too nice. Case in point, I watched StarWars 3 in all it’s 1080 glory and it looks too fake. Too much detail seemed to take away from the movie itself. When all of the grain from the movie theater is missing and it gets replaced by what seems like Superman vision, somethings just different. On darker movies like the Matrix and Underworld, Full HD is spectacular. But me, I prefer “brighter” movies in 720P.
