My Ayur Chair was delivered today. It’s the revolutionary new chair designed for Japanese people because they have bad posture and are not used to sitting in chairs. That’s how they’re marketing it. It’s more comfortable than it looks and makes you sit-up straight for extended periods. Some of the benefits are prevention of stiff shoulders (big problem for me), improved concentration (big problem for me) and posture, weightloss in your lower body, better golf swing etc. It was fairly expensive even with the discount I got but still much cheaper than one of those Herman Miller chairs and doesn’t take up as much space either.

I would say that 55000 is more than fairly expensive. That is VERY expensive. Gosh. I hope it does the trick for you.
Anything below 20,000yen is garbage and not worth sitting on. And any good chairs are more than 100,000yen. The Herman Miller ones are 250,000. I was looking for something that was small and good for the back not just “a chair”. The chair I got at work is such crap that I’m afraid if I don’t do something about it I’ll have to pay through the nose for a chiropractor. So I’m hoping this will be a good investment.
Good points Roy. My uncle Bob worked in what used to be called a gentlemen’s outfitters. An old man came in looking down at heel. My uncle guided him to the cheaper section of the shop. The poorly dressed man resisted and explained, “Don’t show me anything cheap. I can’t afford it.”
OK Roy we want to see a photo of you sitting on it now
Please let me know if it indeed helps against stiff shoulders and how much time you have to devote to it to be of help. If it does help, I might be interested.
Why is there a gap between the seats?
I haven’t had the chance to see other offices in Japan, but the one I was in, the chair was atrocious. It was a swivel chair with no proper backrest, no armrest, height adjustable only by turning the chair around, and the seat too small for the butts of the majority of the guys in the office.
And Roy, I’d have to agree with you on the posture part. The way some sit is really bad. Shoulders hunched up to ear level, neck non-existant, head sticking out like a turtle typing furiously into a small laptop with an even smaller screen. I’m amazed they don’t suffer from any health ailments.
The seat is split down the middle so it can be adjusted. You can tilt the seats to tilt inwards or outwards depending on what’s comfortable. You can also tilt it in a way so that it forces you to spread you legs when sitting. This helps you to sit up straight. I can’t really explain it. If you sat on the chair you’d understand.
Gotta try this. I’ve taken to sitting on a giant exercise ball. (Which only cost me $14.. but I do look really silly.)
